Archery GB operates a classification scheme which is open to all archers and bow types.
For adult archers, the classifications start at 3rd class and move up through 2nd class, 1st class, Bowman, Master Bowman and Grand Master Bowman.
For junior archers, the classifications start at 3rd class and move up through 2nd class, 1st class, Junior Bowman and Junior Master Bowman.
The rounds that may be used to qualify for each classification become more restricted as you progress up through the scheme. e.g. 3rd class can be achieved with almost any recognised round whereas there are only 4 rounds that can be used for Grand Master Bowman.
Each score must be achieved 3 times in order to achieve the classification. 3rd, 2nd, 1st and Bowman are administered at club level and can use rounds shot at the club. Master Bowman and Grand Master Bowman are administered by Archery GB and only rounds shot in competition can be used. Classifications are gained between January and December each year and must be renewed annually.
All completed scoresheets for club level should be handed to Andrew Bedford.
The 252 Award scheme is probably the most popular. It is an award scheme in use at many archery clubs in the UK and applies to all archers, irrespective of age, ability or bow type.
The scheme is designed to help you practice your shooting at different distances and have your achievements recognised at each level of success.
After 6 sighters (practice arrows), you shoot a set number of arrows on a 122cm face at your chosen distance. Badges can be earned for 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80 or 100 yards by achieving a score of 252 or better. If you achieve the score twice you can claim a badge.
